- The MOST important thing to remember: Never compromise your privacy. When arranging for a place to meet to buy an item or service, choose a neutral location, such as a bank or convenience store. Always meet during the day. It is dangerous to give out your home address. If at all possible, arrange to have the items sold at a neutral location.
Tips for Sellers:
- The MOST important thing to remember, again, is: Never compromise your privacy. For a seller, this usually means arranging to meet the buyer away from your home. If possible, choose a neutral location, and meet during the day.
- Be as descriptive as possible: Too many times, we've seen ads with less than 25 words describing the product. People need more to go on! Spend 2 more minutes and describe your product with a little more detail. Imagine that you are the person thinking about buying your product. What would you want to know about it? What words would make you want to buy it? Keeping this mindset when writing your description can make your listing much more effective.
- Take good photographs: Use the flash in most circumstances. Sometimes, the flash may wash out important subtle details, depending on what you are selling. In that case, turn off the flash, light up the item as much as possible with a lamp or spotlight, and hold the camera as still as possible. The easiest way to do this is to set the camera on a still object and set the camera's timer for a timed shot. Keeping the camera from moving in this manner gives you a clear, non-blurry shot.
- Check your email frequently: Buyers will often move on in as little as a few days. If you really want to sell something, be ready to check your email at least daily, if not several times per day.
- Be courteous and honest: Its good business to be nice to others. Plus, since the iLookLocal selling strategy is focused on face-to-face interaction, being nice to the customer is always a good idea.
